On September 30, 2022, President Joe Biden signed the Hermit’s Peak Fire Assistance Act into law. The bill provides $2.5 billion in compensation and recovery assistance for those affected by the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire that ravaged the Santa Fe National Forest and surrounding areas. This blog post will provide an overview of what the act means for victims of the fire.
How Will It Help?
The act provides compensation to individuals, Tribal Nations, and businesses that suffered losses due to the fire. Eligible losses include:
- Personal injury
- Loss of property
- Business loss
- Flooding damage
- Fire suppression damage
- Ash damage
- Financial loss incurred due to the blaze
Any injured persons have up to two years to submit a claim for injuries. Be sure to reach out to our office to learn more about deadlines when it comes to submitting those claims.
You can submit a notice of loss form to start the claims process here. On the same page, you can find more guidance on filing properly. Sadly, not everyone will receive the desired amount they seek to cover damages. When your insurance company and the government cannot cover you, the Robins Cloud LLP team is here to help.
